The Latin American Music Center (LAMC) proudly presents its inaugural chamber series concert “Salón Latino”: an event featuring some of the finest students from the Jacobs School of Music performing an all-Latin American music program. The concert includes performances by several Jacobs School of Music students, originally from Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico, and the United States, and features recipients of the Anthony and Olimpia Barbera Latin American Music Scholarship, the Scott C. and Kathryn Schurz Latin American Scholarship, and The Barbara and David Jacobs Fellowship.
“We are very happy to take this opportunity to launch a new chamber series for the LAMC with these talented musicians, and hope to be able to expand the series with students from any nationality. Not only will this utilize the vast collections of Latin American scores in our library, the series will also encourage the performance of the Latin American repertoire at IU,” said Dr. Erick Carballo, interim director of the LAMC.
The students will be performing music by Brazilian composers Marlon Nobre, Eduardo Dutra, Raul de Barros; by the Argentineans Ariel Ramírez, Jorge Cardoso, Astor Piazzolla, Homero Manzi, and Carlos Guastavino; and by others composer such as Venezuelan Hugo Blanco and celebrated Cuban Ernesto Lecuona. The concert will take place in Auer Hall at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 26 October 2012. Admission to the concert is free.
