Jip Jop is more than just a band. It is a concept, a lifestyle, a unique unified sound created by six dedicated musicians from all over the country. It is a melting pot of vibes, cultures, and ideals drawn from every generation since the 1950s. With the horn section playing memorable lines and colorful harmonies, the rhythm section laying down feel-good grooves guaranteed to make you move, and Benny Nice with his soulful flows and song, the audience is always on their feet dancing.
Jip Jop first started making music in 2006 when four music students/hip-hop enthusiasts from Indiana Universitys Jacobs School of Music met a rapper/jazz lover and started combining forces. After meeting bassist Bobby Wooten in fall of 2007, Jip Jop was seen in backyards, basements, and frat houses all year long spreading their infectious sound. In 2008, the band began performing at nearly every venue Bloomington had to offer. By 2009 the Jip Jop crew started migrating north to perform at various venues and parties in Chicago and Indianapolis. Recently, Jip Jop has opened for notable artists such as afro-beat sensation NOMO, breakout hip-hop artist Wale, and electronica indie rock band Shiny Toy Guns.
As the repertoire developed, the band yearned to get into the studio. In October 2009, Jip Jop traveled to Chicago, Illinois to finish recording their debut album at Rewind Records to be released in Fall of 2010.
