Emil Walton is a mixed media artist born in Namibia, Southwest Africa. He spent the first 23 years of his life in South Africa and then lived and traveled throughout Europe before settling in Louisville, KY.
He entered the Louisville art scene 2008, making a big impact with his social-political work and artistic statements. His solo show ”Autonomous” was sold to the Museum Plaza Foundation and is currently in the Brown-Wilson Collection and other private collections. He annually donates his work to various foundations such as the Denny Crum Scholarship, Cystic Fibrosis, and Friends of the Waterfront Foundations, where 100% of the proceeds are donated to these causes.
Emil’s art has been exhibited in several galleries around Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. "Make WAR Not ART" at Wandering Turtle Art Gallery is his first exhibition in Bloomington, IN. This body of work focuses on war related issues. Through politically inclined ideas and themes, Mr. Walton provokes the viewer to think outside his/her comfort zone.
Walton’s paintings have a decidedly political bent. With black stencil-style letters spelling out cryptic messages, the intention is clearly provocative. Underneath the controversial topic, the artisanship is simple but well done.
During this season when, as a nation, we honor our diverse and amazing country, Wandering Turtle takes special delight in celebrating our rights to freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and our grand democratic tradition of engaging in lively political debate. We are proud to present the work of this talented, thoughtful, compassionate, and visually outspoken artist.
